District announces Frontier Building lease for Independence Classical Academy, job fair, greenhouse progress and staffing updates

A board member reported the district finalized a lease of the Frontier Building with Independence Classical Academy. The academy is holding information nights at Frontier; the board announced an open house for the academy at the Frontier Building on Feb. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m., and a board meet-and-greet on an earlier date (a Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., the district said). The board encouraged community attendance at those events.
The board also announced a district job fair set for Saturday, March 8, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Elizabeth High School, with outreach planned to teachers in the Denver metro area. A board member said the district hopes to attract candidates who share the district’s academic focus.
Facility updates included progress on an auto building and greenhouse project by Greenhouse Builders; electrical work, fire-alarm cabling and data cabling were reported as underway. The district said it expects the building to be occupied “in the not too distant future.”
On staffing and benefits, a board member said the compensation committee will bring a recommended change to the district’s retirement track at the next meeting; the proposal would alter the pay structure for staff entering the retirement track to improve sustainability. The district reported two candidates applied for the retirement track this year, down from last year’s applicants.
Administration said parents and staff have been sent intent-to-return forms for planning the next school year and emphasized that the form collects both a return intent and interest in other roles. The board also reported the student activity and people-activity funds are being reviewed to ensure clubs spend accumulated balances for current students.
