Committee approves four student fundraisers; reports recent fundraiser totals and upcoming events

The Rockland School Committee on Jan. 27 approved four new student fundraisers and heard reports about recently completed fundraisers.

The agenda listed completed fundraisers including an eighth-grade pop-up store that collected $10,713 with no expenses and a WRPS bowling fundraiser at Timberlanes that produced $349.60 in profit, also with no expenses. Committee members commended organizers for the results.

The committee approved four new fundraisers: an eighth-grade sale of Hilliard's chocolate bars (40 bars at $3 each listed on the agenda; the agenda notes expected profit figures of $1.75 per box and also contains an entry listing $70 per box), a cookie-dough fundraiser for the classes of 2027 and 2028 (to run in February into March), a senior-class volleyball tournament for the classes of 2025 (March) and a "Hoops Hysteria" 3-on-3 student-teacher tournament for the class of 2027 (June). A motion to approve the four fundraisers carried by voice vote after a second.

Committee members also noted upcoming school events: the high school student council will hold a polar plunge on Feb. 6 to raise money for Special Olympics; Phelps Elementary will hold Winter Arts Night on Jan. 28 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with a school-wide art show and a third-/fourth-grade chorus concert starting at 6 p.m. Members praised a recent Rogers Middle School musical for student performance.

The meeting record does not include roll-call vote tallies for the fundraisers; the approvals were recorded as voice votes.
