Westlake honors two staffers with Fall Excellence awards

Dr. Goggin, superintendent of Westlake City Schools, recognized two employees at the Jan. 27, 2025, Board of Education meeting as recipients of the district's Fall Excellence awards: Roseanne “Rosie” (Special Education Assistant, Westlake Elementary School) and Angie Germano (fifth‑grade science teacher, Dover Intermediate School).

The awards program honors one classified employee and one certified employee each semester. Dr. Goggin said nominations came from colleagues across district buildings and that the winners were selected from multiple “very, very worthy candidates.”

Kim Tucker, principal at Westlake Elementary School, described Rosie as “one of the best agents in Westlake,” saying she “gives it her all every single day” and is willing to take on difficult or messy tasks to support students and staff. Tucker said Rosie quickly builds trust with students who have challenging behaviors and remains “the last to stay to make sure every child is home.”

In brief remarks onstage, Rosie told the audience she loves her job and thanked her family and co‑workers. Nick Miller, principal at Dover Intermediate School, introduced Angie Germano and highlighted Germano’s efforts building an outdoor classroom, leading professional development, creating student clubs and securing external funding. Miller said Germano has “secured over $25,000 in funding” for classroom projects and has helped other teachers use DonorsChoose to fund projects.

Germano, who teaches fifth‑grade science, said she enjoys working in a community that supports creative learning and thanked colleagues for their help in creating outdoor learning spaces. The Board encouraged the audience to remain for the full meeting but said staff and guests were welcome to leave after the recognition ceremony.

The district noted both winners were selected from multiple peer nominations and thanked the community and donors for their support of district programs.
