Angela Iverson presented the 2025 Evergreen Reads selection and plan to the Board of Education. She said the district chose The Wild Robot as this year’s common title for a communitywide reading program and noted it is accessible across grade levels.
“I think The Wild Robot is a good choice because there is a movie that just came out and this book is…really accessible,” Iverson said, adding the title is at a fifth-grade reading level but can be used districtwide with age-appropriate companion selections for younger readers.
Iverson said each school will receive 25 copies for families on a first-come, first-served basis; additional copies will be available for purchase locally. The district plans in-school programming after books are distributed and several evening events at elementary schools over roughly five to six weeks. In past years the program has concluded with a related movie night.
Board members and staff responded positively; Iverson said she would contact local booksellers about discounts and welcomed outreach from staff and families wanting to support the program.
