Mosquito Control District outlines local operations, offers public assistance

Foster said the district — formed by voters in 1991 — performs larval‑control at known breeding sites across the county, responds to private‑property complaints where feasible, and conducts limited adult mosquito control when appropriate. He said the district also works with county public‑health staff to monitor for mosquito‑borne disease and that the district prefers to obtain homeowner permission for work on private property when possible, though state law (RCW 17.28) authorizes district activity.
Board members asked about vacancies and appointment processes; Foster said there were no current openings and reviewed how member cities appoint representatives. No action was requested; commissioners thanked the manager for the update.
