Library outreach, water‑district tours and volunteer opportunities presented to Encinitas Senior Commission

Three members of the public addressed the Senior Citizen Commission during oral communications on Jan. 21 to promote senior programs, facility tours and volunteer opportunities in and around Encinitas.
Renee Hanson, adult services manager at the Encinitas Library, introduced new outreach librarian Anne Hall and described upcoming offerings the library expects to promote to older residents: a US history presentation featuring protest music on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 3 p.m.; weekly AARP free income tax preparation on Fridays starting Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and the library's local‑author showcase on Sunday, March 23. Hanson also noted the library's continuing adult programs.
Anne Hall, the library's outreach services librarian, described two programs of interest to seniors: a 3D Printing 101 session scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 9 (and again March 9) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a new "iPhone for Seniors" class set for the first and third Thursdays, 2–4 p.m., with time for individual troubleshooting.
Melody Colombo (Olivenhain Municipal Water District) told commissioners her agency offers complimentary public tours of its Water Treatment Plant, the 4S Reclamation Facility and the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve. Tours typically depart from district headquarters at 8 a.m. and end around noon; the next scheduled tours are April 10 and July 10. Colombo also described volunteer roles at the Elfin Forest interpretive center and a trail‑patrol volunteer program.
Jim O'Hara introduced himself and encouraged commissioners to email him suggestions on how the commission could be more active; he invited commissioners to discuss a council agenda item and offered to be available in his office the following day for comments.
