A tenant told the Glendale Housing Authority during public comment on Jan. 21 that her apartment is “very dark” and that she is paying $1,771 a month, asking the authority to consider her application for an affordable unit.
The comment came during the Housing Authority’s oral communications period at the regular Jan. 21 meeting at Glendale City Hall. A staff translator, identified in the record as Ayesha, relayed the speaker’s account that she had applied for the Broadway building project and that her place on the waiting list was “in the 3,000 range,” making the odds of receiving a unit low.
The authority’s clerk had read a closed-session item into the record earlier: “Conference with Legal Counsel, Anticipated Litigation pursuant to Paragraph 4 of Subdivision D of Government Code Section 54956.9, 1 potential case,” and members agreed to recess into closed session at the end of the public portion of the meeting. Before the recess, the board approved the minutes from a prior meeting; the mover and seconder were not specified in the record.
Members asked staff to ensure the commenter understood that the authority could not make immediate decisions during public comment but could refer issues to staff for investigation and follow-up. One member said they did not want the speaker to feel dismissed and suggested staff follow up to explain protocols.
After public comment and brief remarks from members and staff, the authority recessed to closed session.
