The Chelsea Licensing Commission on Jan. 9 approved a new old-gold license application for Elsa Marcuro, doing business as Genesis Jewelry, to operate at 130 Pearl Street in Chelsea.
The decision came after Marcuro confirmed she had returned the certified receipts required for public-notice of the continued hearing and described plans to operate a retail jewelry shop. “I make my own designs and I have like a place where I buy wholesale also with my license in California,” Marcuro said, explaining she has operated jewelry businesses in California for roughly a decade and is opening the Chelsea location to serve local customers and family in the Boston area.
Marty McAlpine, chair of the Chelsea Licensing Commission, noted the licensing office had received the certified-return receipts and that the documentation was needed for the commission to act on the application. Sergeant Chung of the Chelsea Police Department reported that a CORI check was conducted and “it was all clear.” Chung also urged coordination with police on cameras given the retail nature of the business.
Marcuro told the commission she plans to install multiple security cameras and other measures. She said she had “put, like, 10 inside” cameras, planned cameras outside on both sides and intended to install two on the top of the building; she also said she would install a gate with remote control and replace a rear door for security.
There was no public comment on the application. After commissioners confirmed no additional questions, the commission moved and seconded a motion to approve the license; the chair called for the vote and recorded the approval.
Marcuro said the store is already being set up and she hoped to open “as soon as possible.” The commission offered standard reminders about coordinating with police on security footage if incidents occur.
Genesis Jewelry is authorized to proceed under the license granted by the commission; the file includes the certified-return receipts and a clear CORI finding reported by the police department.
