Public works staff said the city plans to treat roughly 150 lane miles with crack fill this year. The contract award to Holbrook, whose bid was $562,860, followed a public bid process; the next-lowest bidder was more than $300,000 higher, staff reported. Councilmember David Diaz moved to award the contract; Vice Mayor Michelle Lynn seconded and the motion passed 6-0.
Staff said the work includes mobilizing traffic control that moves with the crew as they work; council members asked why traffic-control bids varied widely among contractors. The city posted the bid tabulation sheet on its website and encouraged residents to review the submission details for more information.
Holbrook Asphalt has worked with the city for multiple years on similar programs, staff said; the street maintenance program is part of the city’s routine pavement preservation efforts to extend pavement life and reduce long-term repair costs.
