Council approves $54,324 change order to finish repairs on high-service pump No. 12

The Lake Havasu City Council on Jan. 14 approved a purchase order change for additional work to rehabilitate high-service pump number 12 at the city’s water treatment plant.
Public works staff said the pump is a 3,000-gallon-per-minute unit that serves more than half of the distribution system. After disassembling the pump for inspection, contractors found additional damage to the pipe and column shaft that requires repair; the additional work pushed the cost above the $50,000 threshold, triggering council approval for a change order.
Mr. Kellett presented photographs and described the required scope. “The work that needs to be done … are found to be in need of repair, and the time to do it is when you already have it taken apart,” he said.
Councilmember Jenny Coke moved to approve the Lane Christensen Company change order for $54,324.15; Councilmember Nancy Campbell seconded. The motion passed 6-0.
Staff said the pump removal and inspection work began under an earlier contract and that completing the repairs now avoids a second disassembly and downtime. The city described the work as necessary to preserve distribution capacity for both the northern and southern halves of the system; staff noted the city has six high-service pumps, three serving the north and three serving the south.
