Peoria planning commission delays officer election as vacancies remain

The Peoria Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously on Jan. 16 to postpone its election of officers until more commissioners are available. The motion followed discussion of two current vacancies on the seven-member commission and the absence of Vice Chair Waitman Powell at the meeting.
Chair Feider said the postponement would allow the commission to hold elections with a fuller slate of members present. Commissioners expressed support for delaying to ensure broader participation in choosing officers.
City staff told commissioners a council board subcommittee meeting to review commission appointments is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 18. Staff said they would check with the clerk’s office to see if that meeting could be moved earlier to expedite interviews and recommendations.
Commissioners also noted two vacancies and encouraged residents interested in serving to submit applications to the clerk’s office. The motion to postpone the election passed unanimously; there were no public comments on the item.
Staff also announced the Feb. 6 planning commission meeting is likely to be canceled, with at least one item tentatively scheduled for the Feb. 20 regular meeting.
