Mitigation-certification subgroup to memorialize work in white paper; will await national credential before advancing certification

The vapor-intrusion mitigation subgroup reported Jan. 23 that it is compiling a white paper to memorialize months of work on a mitigation-certification approach for vapor intrusion and radon, but that it will not push a state-level certification until a national credential for vapor-intrusion mitigation is finalized.
An ad hoc committee has developed draft content and assignments for the white paper. The subgroup paused policy advancement last year while awaiting the National Radon Proficiency Program and the National Vapor Intrusion community to develop a national credential; the subgroup said it wants to preserve the work in a white paper so the effort is not lost and can be revisited once a national credential exists. The subgroup plans to have a draft for the VI subgroup by mid-February and present a first draft to the full EAG in spring.
Jennifer Borski, identified in roll call as Wisconsin vapor intrusion team leader for the DNR, said once a national vapor-intrusion mitigation credential is developed and approved, the subgroup intends to revisit certification options and align any state approach with the national standard. The white paper will document past discussions and provide a reference for next steps.
