City Selection Committee amends bylaws to let staff set annual meeting location

The Ventura County City Selection Committee on Jan. 24 approved a change to its bylaws that lets staff include the annual meeting location in the committee’s first notice each year instead of returning to the committee for a bylaws amendment when a venue becomes unavailable.
The change was presented by Amy Martinez, chief deputy director of the board and secretary to the City Selection Committee, who said the amendment will give staff flexibility when previously selected sites are no longer available. "It is no longer available to us," Martinez told the committee, referring to the former default meeting site. She said the proposed language would allow staff to provide the meeting place annually when sending the first meeting notice.
The amendment passed on a unanimous voice vote after a motion to approve was made by a committee member and seconded by another member. Martinez moved the item and was available to answer questions during the discussion. Chair Kildee called for the vote and announced the motion passed unanimously.
Committee members said the change was intended to reduce administrative burden from repeatedly amending the bylaws when meeting sites change. No member spoke against the proposal and there were no public comments on the item.
The amendment takes effect as approved at the Jan. 24 meeting; staff indicated future first notices will list the meeting location for that year.
