Wilson board adopts 2025–26 High School Program of Studies, adds cybersecurity courses and earned honors band credit

The Wilson School District Board of Education on Jan. 20 approved the district’s 2025–26 High School Program of Studies, a comprehensive guide to graduation requirements, course pathways and new elective offerings.
District presenter Doctor Kachuffo summarized the changes, saying the program “focuses on those skills and dispositions” in the district’s graduate profile and is intended to make students both college- and career-ready. The approved changes add JROTC cybersecurity courses tied to CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications, an earned honors credit option for 11th- and 12th-grade band and orchestra, a yearlong “Journey Through Art” course, an adaptive music course for special education students, a one-credit dual-enrollment teaching assistant internship option, and a pre-algebra course to better prepare students who are not yet ready for Algebra I.
Board members and staff described the Program of Studies as a single reference for families and counselors. Kachuffo said the document also contains hyperlinked flowcharts that show sample pathways from ninth through twelfth grade in each content area. He credited high school public relations interns with standardizing the flowchart templates.
Board member Missus Casper asked about alumni feedback on graduates’ preparedness for careers and higher education. Kachuffo replied the district solicits alumni input but said broader outreach is desirable. President Cocker and other board members noted alumni are regularly invited back to meet students and that the district will continue to expand alumni engagement.
The Program of Studies preserved the district’s graduation credit totals: English 4, social studies 3, math 3, science 3, physical education 0.5, health 0.5 and electives 7. Kachuffo said the changes aim to tighten 9th-grade course choices so that incoming high school students have a consistent foundation.
The board approved the Program of Studies by roll-call vote (mover: Doctor Kennedy; second: Mister Schneider). The motion carried, 8–0.
The approved booklet and its flowcharts will be posted on the high school website once final formatting is complete.
