Waynesville Career Center reports steady credentialing, internships and 100% NCLEX pass streak

The Waynesville Career Center (WCC) staff updated the board on career and technical education goals, recruitment, industry-recognized credentials (IRCs), internships and licensure pass rates.
Mr. Kalas (WCC) told the board the center's goals focus on preparing students for workforce, postsecondary training or military service and said almost all WCC courses are optional for students. He described recruiting and tour activities completed with Waynesville High School sophomores and said the center has hosted program tours and an upcoming open house scheduled for Jan. 30.
Kalas described IRCs as increasingly emphasized by the state and CTE community and said IRC participation fluctuates by year; he said the district had its strongest IRC results since 2020. The WCC also runs Fort Leonard Wood internships; Kalas said internships dropped from eight students last year to four this year but that Fort Leonard Wood leaders plan to visit the high school to promote future opportunities. He said two students are interning at Davidson and two are interning at the airport.
On nursing training, the presenter said the district achieved a sixth straight year of a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX exam for its LPN students and that job placement was reported at about 90% at the time data were collected, rising toward 100% as placements finalize.
The board heard the update as information; no board action was requested.
