Victoria Venable, representing the county executive’s office, asked the delegation to update and send a letter of support for a statewide bill addressing safety standards related to a corrugated steel building product. Venable said county staff had worked with stakeholders, including the Department of Labor and opponents of the bill, to craft amendments meant to address implementation concerns.
Venable asked the delegation to break from tradition and submit a county-level letter in support of the statewide measure because the product had been linked to a first responder fatality in Frederick County. She provided a sample, high-level letter focused on safety while sponsors refined statutory language.
A motion to approve the updated letter of support was moved and seconded. The delegation approved the letter by voice vote with no opposition. Delegation staff were asked to finalize the letter and send it to Andrew and Senator Fulton for signatures and transmission to bill sponsors.
