Residents tell commission speed bumps are harming backs, vehicles and emergency access

Two residents raised concerns during the public comment period about recently installed traffic bumps on a neighborhood street, saying the bumps injure their backs, damage cars and could impede emergency response.

Both speakers — who did not give full names during the meeting and were recorded as members of the public — said they had only learned about the installation recently and asked whether the decision could be reconsidered. One resident said she drives that road “three times a week” and that the bumps “exacerbate your arthritis, your back problems” and force drivers to slow to walking speed; she also described a close encounter with a truck that did not slow. The second resident said the bumps are “very big,” cause jolts even when drivers slow, increase wear on vehicles and create noise and additional air pollution from repeated acceleration.

Commission staff collected contact information and told the speakers staff had spoken with a Mr. Redmond about the issue; staff indicated they would follow up. The commission did not take action during the public‑comment agenda item and noted the rules that the commission cannot act on items introduced during public comment other than briefly requesting clarification, referring the matter to staff, or providing a short response.
