The Ashe County Schools Board approved overnight travel for HOSA students to attend the North Carolina HOSA State Leadership Conference March 26–29, the board heard on Jan. 13.
A staff representative asked the board for permission for students and chaperones to travel to the state conference and noted that regional competition results qualified several students to advance to state. "We're seeking permission to rally students to travel March 26 to 29 ... to attend the state leadership conference," the presenter said.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the itinerary and staffing; the presenter said a complete agenda will be shared with the board when finalized. After a motion and second, the board voted in favor and the chair announced approval.
Board members and the presenter praised the students and staff. The presenter listed HOSA regional placements the district achieved; among results noted were first-place regional finishes for teams and several students who placed in the top five across categories. Staff said winners will compete in March at the state conference.
The board's approval authorizes the superintendent and sponsors to finalize travel arrangements, subject to standard district trip procedures and any additional board conditions the district requires.
