New Norwalk-La Mirada Unified superintendent outlines 90-day entry plan to focus on relationships, instruction and partnerships

Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District’s new superintendent, Dr. Natasha Baker, introduced herself to the City Council Tuesday and described a 90-day entry plan focused on listening to stakeholders, sustaining teaching and learning, and planning with partners.

Baker, who took the post Jan. 1, said she will spend the first 90 days meeting staff, labor partners, parents and students to understand district accomplishments and areas for improvement. “For the 1st 90 days, I'll be really focusing on better understanding the great work that's in Norwalk La Mirada Unified School District and also connecting with partners, to do future planning,” she told the council.

Why it matters: NL-MUSD serves roughly 15,000 students across district schools and manages a large operating budget; the superintendent's early priorities can shape curriculum, partnerships and long-term planning.

Baker described three goals: engaging stakeholders to build relationships and gather feedback; sustaining high-quality teaching and learning; and planning collaboratively with partners before proposing major changes to the school board. She said a copy of the 90-day plan is posted at nlmusd.org.

City Manager Jose Gomez introduced Baker and noted her prior roles in large districts and state education offices. Baker said she welcomed feedback and one-on-one meetings with council members and community partners as the plan proceeds.

Ending: No council action was required. Baker said she will return as needed and that the 90-day entry plan is intended as a working document.
