District bond projects advance: new baseball stadium turf, arts building windows, Rio Vista track nearing completion

RJ Stump provided the governing board with an update on Measure V–funded facilities projects, reporting progress across athletic, arts and campus infrastructure work.

Stump said work at Budi Sanchez varsity baseball field is nearly complete: batting cages and fencing are installed, dugout roofs finished and the scoreboard tested. “We’re looking to get two mows on that before the first home game on February 19,” he said. He also described a forthcoming sign honoring the Sanchez family and said a grand-opening event is being planned for the spring.

At the arts building, Stump reported windows were installed, old air-conditioning units removed and system programming is being finalized. The Rio Vista track project had concrete sidewalks finished, irrigation and tree planting in place and the artificial turf installation had begun.

Stump described the Fillmore school farm project as complete enough for interior furnishings and fire-alarm testing, and he highlighted a student-built fencing project in which students performed concrete work and welding as part of a hands-on vocational experience.

Assistant Superintendent Andrea McNeil and trustees thanked Stump and the facilities team for keeping projects on schedule. Trustees noted the value of hands-on student involvement in vocational and CTE-linked work and encouraged staff to share project timelines with the community when milestones are ready for public announcement.

Board members asked about a grand opening for the baseball stadium; Stump said the goal is to have the turf and sign installed in time for the Feb. 19 first home game and to coordinate a spring ceremony in coordination with the Sanchez family.
