Board approves Commerce House contract to rebuild district website, add social media

The Palmdale Aerospace Academy District board on Jan. 14 approved a contract with Commerce House to produce a new website and manage social-media content for both campuses.
Staff told the board Commerce House will deliver a full redesign that reduces clicks to information, embeds video and improves navigation. The vendor’s work includes training two teachers on two Project Lead The Way courses (as part of a separate PLTW grant discussion), monthly social-media engagement and creation of accounts the district lacks, such as Instagram and LinkedIn. Staff said the vendor’s prior work for other charter schools looked clean and easy to navigate.
Why it matters: The website redesign is intended to improve public-facing communications, recruitment and first impressions for families and job applicants. Board members asked about user input, branding and maintenance. Staff said Commerce House will follow the district’s branding guide and will solicit input from principals, teachers and parents. The technology department will serve as the ongoing content and maintenance owner; individual departments will be able to edit their pages.
Details: Board members asked whether travel costs and video production were included; staff said some travel and production costs are optional and could be managed through in-house photography or contracted work depending on budget. Staff also indicated the project will take months to complete and will be tested before launch to work out any issues.
