North Hills superintendent outlines calendar, registration and staffing plans for 2025

Dr. Matthew Mannarino, North Hills School District superintendent, told the board Jan. 23 that the district started second semester this week and is monitoring remaining flexible instructional days as winter weather continues to affect the calendar.
“ We have 2 flexible instructional days available to us,” Mannarino said, adding that April 17 and April 21 are identified on the district calendar as make‑up days if the district exhausts flexible days.
The comment came during Mannarino’s superintendent’s report to the North Hills Board of Education committee. He outlined several near‑term dates and operational notes that affect families and staff: kindergarten registration opens Feb. 1; children must be age 5 by Aug. 1 to enroll and must reside in Ross or Westview to attend the district; in‑person registration appointments begin Feb. 17; kindergarten story time is April 7–10; and kindergarten readiness screenings begin the first week of June. Mannarino warned that late registrants who enroll after June 1 cannot be guaranteed assignment to their home school.
Mannarino also announced a district job fair to be held on Presidents’ Day in the same room, intended to recruit teachers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, cafeteria workers and custodial staff; administrators will conduct brief on‑site interviews. He encouraged community members seeking employment to attend.
On secondary‑school scheduling and events, Mannarino noted the high school curriculum night on Jan. 29 from 6–8 p.m. for students in grades 8–11 and a middle school curriculum night for rising sixth‑grade parents on Feb. 5. He listed standardized testing dates announced for students: the March 8 SAT (registration due Feb. 21) and the Feb. 8 ACT (registration deadlines noted for subsequent sittings).
Mannarino closed by congratulating district arts and athletic programs, including recent varsity wrestling and art show accomplishments, and reminded the public that the district is streaming meetings on its YouTube page.
The board did not take formal action on calendar options at the Jan. 23 meeting; Mannarino said he will meet with the education committee if the district must consider additional makeup plans.
