Weber County approves rezone for commercial parcel near new Western Weber high school

Planning staff told the Weber County Commission this week that the commission approved a rezoning request to convert a parcel in western Weber County to commercial use near the new high school.

Felix Liberino, a planning division staffer, said the property owner followed the required process, including the general plan and planning commission review, and that the rezone is the first commercial parcel within a larger area planned for commercial development. "So in this case, what they've done is they've followed this process through the general plan to get their zoning changed to a commercial piece," Liberino said. He added the item followed state law and the planning commission approval process before reaching the county commissioners.

Commissioner Gage Froy praised planning staff and said the rezone will likely benefit students at the new high school as well as area residents. "We look forward to, small commercial area out there that, will benefit again, not only the students for that new high school, but a lot of the residents that live in that area," Froy said.
