The commission on Jan. 22 approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for extensive exterior alterations at 14 North Walnut Street, including façade painting, new storefronts in the alley, and replacement windows.
Staff summarized the proposal in three parts: the east facade facing Walnut Street (painted CMU and an updated aluminum storefront), alley improvements (three new aluminum storefronts and fire-rated egress doors) and the west facade (paint and two vinyl replacement windows, one of which had already been replaced). The proposed paint color was described in the presentation as a dark olive green with an "iron ore" trim that is a charcoal with a green tint.
Andrew Circle, the project architect, told commissioners the upper floors will provide a third-floor residence and second-floor professional office space after the work. The applicant said the alley storefront once housed a shoe-repair shop and that the project will install new aluminum storefronts consistent with existing alterations.
