PGCPS highlights career-technical students building a market home in county spotlight

Prince George's County Public Schools showcased a Career and Technical Education (CTE) student-built house during a board “PGCPS Spotlight” segment on Jan. 16.
Superintendent Coleman House introduced the presentation, saying he had visited the home and seen students working over the past four months. CTE instructors and students described the project as a real‑world training opportunity that gives learners experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and finishing trades. One CTE instructor said the students “get off the bus” nervous the first visit and by the third or fourth visit are “fighting over the nail guns” as their confidence grows.
Participants emphasized that this is an actual house that will be sold and must meet code; staff said students learn to work with developers, contractors and instructors to complete a project from start to finish.
Ending: The board thanked the superintendent and CTE communications team for the presentation and moved on to other agenda items.
