The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. for the limited purpose of handling committee assignments and leadership nominations. The council voted to dispense with the regular order of business and proceed with the special meeting. The motion to approve the committee assignments was made and seconded and was adopted by voice vote with no opposition recorded.
Councilwoman Cammie Schuman was nominated and, after a second, elected majority leader by voice vote. The council also voted to excuse Councilman Davis from the meeting. The special meeting was adjourned shortly thereafter.
Why it matters: Committee assignments and leadership posts determine which council members will steer ordinance review, hearings and oversight in 2025. Choosing a majority leader sets the internal legislative calendar and who coordinates committee work on behalf of the council majority.
