The House Committee on Judiciary adopted its proposed committee rules for the 2025 legislative session during its Jan. 21, 2025, organizational meeting, the committee chair announced after a roll call vote.
The rules, introduced as the “proposed committee rules for the 2025 82nd Legislative Assembly dated Jan. 21, 2025,” were moved for adoption by Vice Chair Kim Wallen and approved by voice and roll call. Committee leadership said the rules packet was posted on OLIS as meeting materials.
The adoption was followed by chair remarks about individual meetings with members to discuss committee priorities, and a note that the committee will sometimes stand at ease while senators move between rooms for joint informational meetings. The chair said members who previously served on the committee will see an approach that creates space for questions and perspectives and that Vice Chair Wallen and Vice Chair Vera Chai chi will assist in agenda-setting.
Clerk roll-call responses recorded members saying “Aye” or “Yes” during the vote. The chair then declared: “The House Judiciary Committee rules are adopted.”
The committee went on to introduce staff and analysts who will support both the House and Senate Judiciary committees during the session before adjourning the organizational portion of the meeting.
No amendments to the proposed rules were offered on the record at the meeting.
