New Planning Commission leadership chosen; minutes approved

The Mercer Island Planning Commission elected Dan Thompson chair and JB Gibson vice chair during its January meeting and approved the minutes of a November 25 special meeting ahead of the commission's work-plan discussions.
Andrea Larson, city clerk, opened nominations for chair. Commissioner JB Gibson nominated Dan Thompson; Commissioner Nazim Nies seconded. The motion to elect Thompson passed by roll-call vote; Larson announced a unanimous vote of five in favor.
For vice chair, commissioners nominated Anthony Perez and JB Gibson. The commission used roll-call voting on the nominees; after the ballots were counted Larson announced that Gibson was elected vice chair by a 3-2 margin. The clerk described the roll-call procedure prior to voting and reminded commissioners that approval requires a majority of commissioners present.
The commission next considered approval of the minutes of the Nov. 25 special meeting. A motion to approve the minutes was made and seconded; the clerk conducted a roll-call vote and announced the minutes were approved.
Chair Thompson thanked staff for assistance and the commission moved on to review of bylaws and staff reports. No other formal actions (ordinances, resolutions or contract awards) were taken at the meeting.
