Roads staff said a new v-box was installed, a skid-steer mill head is being explored for smoother repairs, pothole patching continued and a tracked loader likely needs a new radiator; state funding for larger paving projects awaits the legislature.
County road officials updated the fiscal court on maintenance and equipment work, including recent repairs, new parts and plans to prepare key stretches for next year's blacktop work.
The road department reported that a new v-box for the latest 550 truck arrived last week and is in service, and that a windshield for the loader also arrived. Staff said one truck remains at the mechanic with intermittent power problems and that the tracked loader has persistent overheating; the department plans to replace the radiator rather than continue repeated patches.
To improve patch durability where old blacktop meets new, staff discussed using a milling head on a skid steer to create smoother transitions before laying asphalt. The department is evaluating options to mill specific sections and, if necessary, rent a skid steer to perform the work. Pothole patching has been underway and additional cold patch material will be picked up this week or next.
Court members identified priority roads for next-season resurfacing, including Albert Moore Road and a rough stretch of Sewell Road; those locations will be inspected and scheduled for repair.
County staff said larger blacktop projects depend on future state funding decisions; any potential state assistance will not be determined until the legislature reconvenes.
No formal action was required; this was an operational update to the court.
