The Franklin Board of Education recognized Volition, a local youth-focused coalition, with the Friends of Franklin award at its Jan. 15 meeting for work the group said is aimed at preventing youth substance use and strengthening family and community ties.
A district speaker noted Volition’s role in developing youth groups at the middle and high school levels, running family and community sessions, and providing professional development for staff on vaping and emerging drug trends. The presentation also announced a Feb. 17 community presentation on vaping and related trends that district and community members were invited to attend.
Representatives from Volition accepted the recognition and said the award reflected a broad network of partners — including school social workers, local law enforcement and businesses — and expressed a desire to continue collaboration with the district.
Board members and the mayor were present for the presentation; Volition thanked Andy Daniels (district staff) for nominating the coalition and reiterated plans to continue community-facing programs.
