Commissioners agree to send part-time longevity pay proposal to policies and procedures

Commissioner Tim Brown asked the Budget & Finance Committee to revisit the county’s longevity pay so long-serving part-time employees receive some benefit. The committee agreed to send the proposal to the policies and procedures committee for review and drafting.
Tim Brown said some part-time employees have been with the county 10–20 years and “deserve something,” and suggested a reduced percentage of full longevity pay rather than full benefits. Other commissioners noted longevity pay has historically been limited to full-time employees and that any change would require updating policy and procedures.
The committee directed Tim Brown to consult with staff and the policies and procedures committee to determine whether part-time employees’ positions and names can be included and whether the change should be pro rata (a percentage of full benefit) or open to all part-time employees meeting a years-of-service threshold. The item will be added to policies and procedures for drafting before returning to the committee.
