MIAMI — The Miami City Commission on Jan. 23 approved a series of resolutions and agreements aimed at strengthening emergency response, public safety services and homelessness supports across the city.
The commission authorized mutual aid agreements with Miami-Dade County, neighboring municipalities and the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office under the Florida Mutual Aid Act to coordinate law-enforcement and emergency response during disasters and large-scale incidents. It also established a special revenue project funded by a justice assistance grant to upgrade the Miami Police Department’s emergency dispatch unit and to provide overtime and other resources for the department’s human trafficking unit.
The commission moved to reallocate community development block grant funds from District 3’s economic development category to the Department of Resilience and Public Works for eligible street improvement projects intended to enhance roadway safety and usability. Commissioners also approved an agreement with the Miami Parking Authority to reimburse costs tied to expanded parking management services.
