Miami City Commission approves mutual-aid pacts, police grants and 213 extended-stay shelter beds

MIAMI — The Miami City Commission on Jan. 23 approved a series of resolutions and agreements aimed at strengthening emergency response, public safety services and homelessness supports across the city.

The commission authorized mutual aid agreements with Miami-Dade County, neighboring municipalities and the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office under the Florida Mutual Aid Act to coordinate law-enforcement and emergency response during disasters and large-scale incidents. It also established a special revenue project funded by a justice assistance grant to upgrade the Miami Police Department’s emergency dispatch unit and to provide overtime and other resources for the department’s human trafficking unit.
