Judge adjudicates Richard Ortiz guilty, sentences him to three years

The 187th District Court adjudicated Richard Ortiz Jr. guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison after finding he violated the terms of his community supervision.
The state moved to proceed on an alleged violation in November 2024. Ortiz pleaded “true” in court to the violation, and the state recommended adjudication and a three‑year prison term. The judge accepted the plea agreement, adjudicated Ortiz guilty, and imposed a three‑year sentence to be served in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Prosecutors told the court Ortiz had largely complied with supervision through much of 2024, including multiple clean drug tests, but tested positive in the incident that prompted the motion. Defense counsel said Ortiz had made substantial progress on supervision until the November incident and that the defense waived appeal as part of the agreement.
The court entered judgment, noted credit for time served and informed Ortiz of limitations on weapons possession following a felony conviction. The clerk was instructed to record the judgment and sentence in the case file.
