Edgewood Independent School District presented results on college, career and military readiness (CCMR) and accepted an energy-savings update from CPS Energy at its Jan. 23 meeting.
The major figures
Deputy Superintendent Phil Chavez told trustees the district’s Texas Success Initiative (TSI) indicators and other CCMR measures have improved. He said the class of 2023 recorded 39% on the TSI-related measure (the district’s stated baseline target had been 15% increasing to 25% by June 2027). Chavez also reported a 13% passing rate on Advanced Placement exams for the class of 2023, and that the district’s industry-based certification percentage for the class of 2023 reached 43%.
Chavez outlined ongoing efforts to increase dual-credit participation, expand early-college and P-TECH pipelines, and sustain SAT/ACT and AP course enrollments across the district’s three high schools (Fine Arts Academy, John F. Kennedy High School, and Memorial High School). He described the CCMR indicators presented as “lagging indicators” reported on an annual cadence and noted staff use a data platform to monitor student progress.
CPS Energy presentation
Robert Olivares of CPS Energy presented the district with an energy-savings figure of $171,159.36 for the most recent summer energy-efficiency effort. The superintendent and staff thanked CPS Energy and noted the work supports district goals to maximize building efficiency.
Recognitions and programs
The board also recognized award winners and programs during the meeting, including a KENS 5 Excel award honoree, classroom and extracurricular recognitions, and a CTE spotlight on the Memorial High School health science program that prepares students for phlebotomy and certified patient-care technician credentials.
Why it matters
The CCMR gains and industry-certification increases, together with energy-savings partnerships, affect graduation outcomes, postsecondary access and district operating costs. Staff said they will continue to reinforce and refine programs to reach district targets.
Ending
Deputy Superintendent Chavez and staff said more detailed CCMR data will be included in February’s Texas academic performance report presentation to the board.
