During the Jan. 24, 2025 regular meeting, the Uvalde CISD Board of Trustees recorded the following formal actions. All motions listed below carried unanimously unless noted.
1) Consent agenda — approved Motion: Approve consent agenda (minutes, information items, accounts payable, monthly financial and operational reports). Mover: Trustee Suarez. Seconder: Trustee Perez. Outcome: Approved unanimously.
2) Course additions for 2025–26 — approved Motion: Add courses including Algebraic Reasoning (OER), Entrepreneurship pathway levels, CTE capstone, Business Management level 4 and statistics/business decision making to the 2025–26 course catalog. Mover: Trustee Suarez. Seconder: Trustee Flores. Outcome: Approved unanimously.
3) T‑TESS appraisers (amendment to appraisers list) — approved Motion: Add newly certified appraisers (Miranda Dvorak, Cassandra Hernandez/Lopez and others) to the district T‑TESS appraiser list for 2024–25. Mover: Trustee Suarez. Seconder: Trustee Perez. Outcome: Approved unanimously.
4) Adoption of reproductive‑health curricula — approved (see separate coverage) Motion: Adopt Real Essentials Starting Point and Real Essentials Advanced and LoveNotes 4.0 per SHAC recommendation. Mover: Trustee Suarez. Seconder: Trustee Rizzo. Outcome: Approved unanimously.
5) General fund budget amendment No. 2 and inclement‑weather pay — approved Motion: Approve budget amendment No. 2 and include lost wages for the Jan. 21 inclement‑weather closure for paraprofessionals and maintenance/operations staff. Mover: Trustee Jacqueline Gonzales. Seconder: Trustee Jesse Rizzo. Outcome: Approved unanimously.
6) GMP Amendment No. 1 (security vestibules) — approved Motion: Approve guaranteed maximum price Amendment No. 1 with Broadus Construction for district‑wide security vestibules ($2,276,964) and authorize the superintendent to finalize negotiations and execute the amendment in a form approved by legal counsel. Mover: Trustee Suarez. Seconder: Trustee Quinones. Outcome: Approved unanimously.
7) Accept AEAP grant (Anti‑Terrorism Emergency Assistance Program) — approved Motion: Adopt resolution to accept AEAP grant funds for recovery services in response to May 24, 2022 events. Mover: Trustee Perez. Seconder: Trustee Suarez. Outcome: Approved unanimously.
8) Designate 10 nonbusiness days for Public Information Act requests (calendar year 2025) — approved Motion: Designate specified nonbusiness days (including portions of spring break and December dates) so PIA timelines exclude those days. Mover: Trustee Flores. Seconder: Trustee Flores. Outcome: Approved unanimously.
9) Superintendent contract extension — approved Motion: Extend the superintendent’s contract by one year following closed session evaluation. Mover: Trustee Suarez. Seconder: Trustee Perez. Outcome: Approved unanimously.
Ending: Administration will implement the board’s directives and report back where tasks require further detail (payroll mechanics for inclement‑weather compensation, contract finalization for GMP, implementation plans for adopted curricula).
