Drainage board approves collection roster, accepts petition to study assessment increase and approves minutes

The Marshall County Drainage Board approved several routine administrative items during the meeting: the list of drainage watersheds to remain in active collection and those to be suspended; acceptance of a petition from Allen Young seeking maintenance funding for the Seager (gall/Seager) watershed; approval of the Nov. 18 meeting minutes; and adjournment.
Staff explained that each watershed has an annual assessment and that the board may suspend collection for a watershed when its balance reaches four times the annual assessment, unless work is anticipated. The board voted to approve the roster of active and non-collection watersheds for 2025; Craig confirmed the assessment shows up on property tax bills.
Regarding the Allen Young petition, staff described the required process: accept the petition, form a joint board (where applicable), prepare a report, determine the amount and present a public hearing, and then the board would make a final decision. The board voted to accept the petition and initiate the process.
The board also approved the minutes of the Nov. 18 meeting by motion and voice vote, and then voted to adjourn. No contested public comments were recorded during the meeting’s public-comment period.
