School board finds superintendent in compliance on technology oversight; members press for clearer AI, Schoology plans

The Fairfax County School Board voted unanimously Jan. 23 to find the superintendent in compliance with Executive Limitation 12, the board’s technology oversight rule, after a presentation on device access, network upgrades and pilot programs including AI and classroom management tools.

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid summarized the monitoring report, saying she had “gathered information and evidence that I believe supports compliance with the Board’s executive limitation associated with this topic.” The report highlighted a 1:1 device program that keeps student devices less than five years old, an ongoing wireless access point upgrade through FY2027, and the rollout of Lightspeed classroom management to most schools.
