Hill told council the list includes two patrol vehicles (replaced by new Tahoes), a K-9 vehicle (being replaced through the foundation), a 1996 Jeep Cherokee and a 1997 International dump truck. He said the two public-works vehicles are very old and that the International dump truck "should be used as a farm truck only." The city had asked James G. Murphy Auctioneers to estimate auction proceeds; Hill cautioned auction results can be low because the city does not set a reserve price and a vehicle could sell for as little as $1,500.
Resolution 612 establishes the process for disposal of surplus property other than real estate; proceeds from vehicle sales would be remitted to the fleet-replacement fund. Council members discussed exploring direct sales or donating vehicles to partner agencies — noting donations to nonprofits could raise legal questions about gifting public funds and would require city-attorney review — and one employee expressed interest in purchasing the Jeep pending due diligence.
Council did not take immediate action on Resolution 25-2004; staff said they would return to council for formal declaration and potential waivers or direct-sale authorization, and would proceed with the standard surplus process in the meantime.
