Commission approves rezoning for Yolanda Vargas property on Research Boulevard

The Lubbock Planning and Zoning Commission on Jan. 23 voted unanimously to approve a zone change for a parcel west of Research Boulevard and south of 19th Street, reclassifying the site from low-density single-family to heavy commercial.
Planning staff said the Future Land Use Plan designates the area for mixed use and that the rezoning would be compatible with surrounding uses; staff reported 22 mailed notices and no returned responses. Adam Nixon of Mountaintop Engineering, representing applicant Yolanda Vargas, told the commission the intended use is a commercial office/warehouse style development and said the immediate priority is to clean up debris on the parcel.
Commissioners moved and seconded the approval; the motion passed 8-0 and the commission noted the case will go to City Council on Feb. 11 for final action.
