County environmental health officials on Aug. 28 presented proposed revisions to permit-processing fees and opened a public hearing on the ordinance.
Health department staff said the last adjustments for many fee categories dated to 1998 and that a 2005 change in state law increased the fee cap for some permits. The department provided an exhibit listing current fees and proposed increases and told commissioners the purpose was to align fees with the actual cost of services. Staff said certain well-related fees are still capped by state law and that, based on prior desk audits, county permit fees had not fully covered the cost of some services.
The board invited public comment; none were present at the meeting. The commissioners kept the public record open for 10 days and provided an address for written comments to the county office.
