Christine Morgan told the St. Mary’s County commissioners on Sept. 1 she owns property controlled by Casmar LLC and is seeking help to build a house adjacent to her brother’s 20-acre parcel, which is in the county’s critical area where rules limit new construction.
Morgan said county rules currently restrict development in the critical area to one house on that 20-acre parcel and that she asked the commissioners to “rezone it, make an exception to the rule” so she could build one livable home near her brother. She said she would not subdivide or sell the property.
Morgan also said the health department will not give final approval for a subdivision on her current property at 45630 Legerton Lane until she connects to the city sewer line that runs in front of her house. She said she is a senior on a limited income and cannot afford the immediate cost to hook up to city sewer and asked that the subdivision be approved with time allowed to apply for state grants to pay for the sewer connection.
“No one's been able to help me…I'm a senior citizen, limited income, I cannot afford to hook up to city sewer,” Morgan said. She asked the commissioners to take the requests under serious consideration. The commissioners did not take formal action at the forum; the comments will be forwarded to county directors for follow-up.
