County accepts FY2015 Emergency Management Performance Grant of $91,961

The commissioners on Sept. 1 authorized acceptance of a FY2015 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) award of $91,961 from the Department of Homeland Security via the Maryland Emergency Management Agency and approved a related budget amendment reducing the previously budgeted amount by $539.
Emergency Services and Technology director Bob Kelly told the board the EMPG supports core emergency management capabilities (prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery). The grant requires a 100 percent match but allows existing staff salaries to count toward the match; the department proposed using a portion of staff salaries as the local match.
Kelly asked to modify the previously submitted spending plan to broaden an item listed as the MEMA conference to "conferences and training," citing a recently announced emergency management certification course he would like to send staff to. Commissioners approved the subrecipient agreement and the budget amendment and authorized the commissioner president to sign related documents.
