Woodland Park Planning Commission elects Lee Brown chair, names Larry Larson vice chair; approves Dec. 12 minutes and begins code review work session

The Woodland Park Planning Commission elected Lee Brown chair and Larry Larson vice chair and approved the commission’s Dec. 12, 2024 minutes during a Jan. 23 meeting, then moved into a work session on a code review project.

The votes came at the commission’s first meeting of the year, when members took up officer nominations after establishing a quorum. Chair Ken Hartsfield declined renomination, saying, “I’m gonna decline the nomination. I think it’s time for other people to see what it looks like from the middle of the, dais.” The commission amended the original motion and voted verbally to install Lee Brown as chair; Jared Newcomb seconded the motion to nominate Brown as chair.

Following Brown’s election, commissioners nominated Larry Larson for vice chair. Commissioners voted verbally in favor and confirmed Larson as vice chair.

The commission also approved the minutes from its Dec. 12, 2024 meeting on a motion by Jared Newcomb, seconded by Larry Larson. Members voted verbally to approve the minutes.

After completing the officer elections and housekeeping items, the commission moved into a work session to begin discussion of the code review project on the published agenda. The work session recording was started separately for posting, and staff members were asked to ensure microphones were on for the session.

Attendance at the roll call showed Cole Middleton, Ken Kennedy and Don Dezellem absent; Don Hoying, Larry Larson, Jared Newcomb, Lee Brown and Ken Hartsfield were present.
