During the Jan. 22 policy committee meeting, staff presented substantive edits to Policy 300 (personnel). The draft adds definitions for contractors and volunteers, clarifies criminal background‑check requirements for those who provide services to FCPS, and updates probationary‑period language to distinguish certificated versus licensed employees in line with changes from MSDE.
Staff said the dismissal section was intentionally moved to the end of the policy so the committee considers progressive disciplinary steps before addressing termination. The redlined version the committee reviewed reflected changes proposed after earlier committee discussion in November and in other working groups. Staff recommended approval of the redline to move the item to the board for first reading.
A committee member moved to forward Policy 300 to first reading with the identified technical changes; the motion passed. Staff and committee members noted a need to clean up cross references and numbering in the document before it reaches the board.
