Rowan County commissioners on Jan. 21 unanimously approved the meeting agenda as amended and the consent agenda before moving into closed session to discuss prior closed-session minutes and negotiation strategy for acquiring real property.
At the start of the meeting the commission chair asked for additions to the agenda and noted that a Martin Luther King resolution presented on Sunday had been added to the consent agenda. A motion to approve the agenda as amended was made and seconded; the chair called for the vote and commissioners answered “Aye.” A separate motion to approve the consent agenda was made, seconded and approved with the same unanimous vocal response.
Later in the meeting commissioners voted to enter closed session pursuant to North Carolina General Statutes § 143-318.11 to consider approval of the closed minutes from Dec. 2, 2024, and to establish or instruct negotiation positions and other strategy concerning the price and other material terms for a proposed acquisition, option, exchange or lease of real property. The motion to enter closed session was made, seconded and carried by voice vote. The meeting then adjourned after the closed-session motion and subsequent proceedings.
The transcript records the procedural votes by voice (all “Aye”) but does not list individual roll-call votes or counts by name in open session. No additional details about the property or the substance of negotiations were disclosed in open session.
