Westmont hires Thomas Engineering for Residential Alley 7S design; phase 2 cost $111,845

The Village of Westmont on Jan. 23 approved an engineering agreement with Thomas Engineering Group LLC for phase 2 design of Residential Alley 7S Reconstruction for $111,845.
Public Works Director Rees described phase 2 design work as including topographic surveys, soil borings, detailed design, plan specifications, cost estimates and bidding assistance. “This request is to approve the sum of $111,845 for phase 2 design engineering,” Rees said.
The alley project lies between Quincy Street, 55th Street, Hudson and Washington and is scheduled for construction in spring–summer 2026. Rees told trustees the village has been working on alley reconstruction over many years and that the program typically completes about one alley per year; trustees noted there are about 17 alleys in the program and the village has completed three so far.
Why it matters: Alley reconstructions are capital projects that improve drainage, access and utility service. The phase 2 design contract funds engineering work needed to prepare construction-ready plans and bidding documents.
Board members approved the engineering agreement by roll call. Staff cited stormwater taxes and permeable pavers as part of broader stormwater-management funding and design options for alley projects.
Next steps: Engineering work will proceed to finalized plans and bidding; construction is tentatively scheduled for spring–summer 2026 pending bidding and funding.
