Seguin ISD student advisory team outlines mentorship and 'No One Eats Alone' initiative

Student officers from the Seguin Independent School District Superintendent Student Advisory Team presented the group's goals and near-term initiatives to the Board of Trustees, including a mentorship program and what officers described as a "No One Eats Alone" initiative.

Leila Moreno, a Seguin High School freshman and SSAT officer, introduced the group's mission and officers and said one goal is "to amplify students' voices, provide a platform for students to share their perspective, ideas and concern directly with district leadership." The officers described a mentorship pilot that pairs high school students with younger team members to foster cross-campus dialogue and leadership development.

The student officers also described a proposed club-level campaign to identify classmates who are eating alone and invite them to sit with peers. "That is the no 1 sits alone or eats alone movement that we are starting," an officer said during the presentation. The students also highlighted a mentorship pairing that helps elementary and middle school members discuss concerns and find positive solutions.

Board members thanked the students and asked brief questions about student-led logistics. Trustees lauded SSAT work during public comment intervals; several board members said student participation helps trustees stay connected to campus life.

SSAT officers said the program meets monthly, runs a mentorship pilot, and uses officer roles such as event coordinator, social-media chair and outreach chair to coordinate activities across campuses. Officers offered to bring follow-up materials and asked for continued trustee support for time and publicity to expand the pilot.
