The Lake County School Board approved a series of routine procedural and policy items in unanimous votes at its Jan. 13 meeting, including approval of minutes, consent agenda items, multiple policy updates and recommended instructional materials.
The board approved the minutes from the regular meeting on Dec. 9, 2024, on a motion by Mr. Dodd, seconded by Mr. Mathias. The vote was recorded as 5–0 in favor. The consent agenda covering items 8.01 through 10.02 was approved on a motion by Mr. Mathias, seconded by Dr. Luke, by a 5–0 vote.
At two public hearings with no members of the public speaking, the board gave tentative approval to policy 5610 (removal, suspensions, alternative disciplinary placement and expulsion of students), policy 5611 (due process rights) and policy 5771 (search and seizure). Mr. Cole opened and closed the hearing after saying there were no public comments. The tentative approvals were moved by Mr. Mathias and seconded by Dr. Luke and passed 5–0.
The board then held a second public hearing and gave final approval to a group of policies including 2215 (grants of instruction), 2271 (articulation and access to Florida College System institutions), 2421 (career and technical education), 2440 (summer programs), 2460 (exceptional student education), 5112 (entrance requirements), 5130 (withdrawal from school), 5225 (absences for religious holidays), 5330.01 (self-administered medication and epinephrine use), 5410 (student progression), 5410.01 (promotion, acceleration, placement and retention) and 5420 (reporting student progress). The superintendent recommended final approval; the motion by Mr. Mathias and second by Mr. Dodd passed 5–0.
The board also approved recommended instructional materials covering science, personal finance and money management that were presented at a recent workshop. The recommendation was moved by Mr. Dodd and seconded by Mr. Mathias and passed 5–0.
Each of the votes recorded a 5–0 outcome with no abstentions or no votes recorded in the transcript. Public hearings reported no public input on these items.
