Education Foundation honors volunteers; Insight Credit Union donates $25,100

The Education Foundation of Lake County presented its 2024–25 outstanding school volunteer awards and announced a donation from Insight Credit Union at the Lake County School Board meeting on Jan. 13.
Dr. Elizabeth Johnson, representing the Education Foundation of Lake County, said the awards “highlight and inspire strong school and community partnerships and relationships, including innovative approaches to improving the academic performance and resiliency of our students.” The foundation recognized Angie Carpenter (adult category), Reese Forbes (youth category) and Nancy Slaughter (senior category) for their volunteer work.
Johnson described Carpenter’s work at Cecil Gray Middle School, saying Carpenter “serves as the PTO president and organizes student pancake breakfasts, Kona ice parties, the annual snowball dance, and hosts four theater shows each year including the set building and concessions.” The presentation said Carpenter has volunteered for four years, serving about 400 students per event and averaging 15 hours a week. The board congratulated Reese Forbes, a 10th-grade student at Lake Minneola High School who volunteers at Triangle Elementary, and Nancy Slaughter, a classroom volunteer at Mineola Charter School who logged more than 364 service hours this year.
Johnson also outlined a partnership with Insight Credit Union tied to the Infinity debit card. “For every Insight Credit Union member who uses the Infinity debit card, 3¢ will go towards the students, teachers, and classrooms as a direct support effort for the district,” Johnson said. She announced that Insight Credit Union would present $25,100 in proceeds that will “directly go towards student initiatives in the school district’s area of greatest need,” and that the partnership will be renewed for another two years.
Board members and the superintendent offered congratulations to the honorees and appreciation to the foundation and Insight Credit Union.
The volunteers recognized at the meeting will be considered for statewide outstanding volunteer recognition in Florida.
